Hip-hop, R&B and indie meet through rhythm, memory and restless curiosity.

ARTIST DISCOVERY

Riz Andalas, Singer, Songwriter & Multi-Instrumentalist

Riz Andalas comes from Indonesia and now creates from Aachen, Germany. His music moves between hip-hop, R&B and atmospheric indie sounds. Soul stays close to the center, especially when rhythm takes over.

His musical foundations started early through his parents’ records. Michael Jackson, Motown, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder filled those years. Al Jarreau became another influence along the way.

Guitar came first during childhood. Drums followed later. Eventually, songwriting gave those different instincts somewhere natural to meet.

MUSIC DISCOVERY

Where Rhythm Meets Memory

Rhythm reveals plenty about how Riz hears music. Basslines catch his attention quickly. So do crisp drums, hi-hat patterns and layered percussion.

Still, rhythm isn’t the entire story.

His songs also circle identity, memory and movement between cultures. That mix gives his writing an interesting tension. The groove can feel immediate while something more personal sits underneath.

For Riz, sound seems connected to place as well. During Dansomania’s listening session, one track immediately brought Jakarta at night to mind. Another suggested a quiet Mediterranean shoreline.

Music becomes scenery for him. Then rhythm gives that scenery motion.

Finding His Own Musical Language

Riz doesn’t treat genre like a fixed address. His listening habits explain why.

D’Angelo remains one of his strongest songwriting influences. Riz speaks particularly warmly about Voodoo and its neo-soul character. He also names “Spanish Joint” among his favorite tracks.

Then there’s Michael Jackson.

For Riz, Jackson represents timing, composition, songwriting and instinct. Those lessons sit beside his love for 1990s R&B and New Jack Swing.

Hip-hop, soul and indie textures enter from different directions. Yet they don’t feel stacked together mechanically. Rhythm gives them a common meeting point.

The groove moves first. The story keeps travelling.

The Listening Session

One clue to Riz’s songwriting appears in how he listens.

During Dansomania’s reaction session, small details repeatedly pull him closer. A bassline lands. Then a vocal rhythm catches his ear. Soon he’s noticing drums, hi-hats and individual percussion layers.

That response feels natural for someone comfortable behind a drum kit.

Riz hears songs almost from the inside outward. Production choices matter because each one changes movement. A tiny rhythmic shift can change the mood completely.

His ear follows those changes before worrying about neat genre labels.

Two Ways to Discover Riz Andalas

Start with the Dansomania Live Session. Watching Riz perform gives his rhythmic instincts a physical shape. Singing and drumming happen together while the surrounding musicians build around him.

Then explore his wider artist world through Riz Andalas on Instagram. His profile adds another window into performances, creative work and what comes next.

From the Record to the Room
The Dansomania Live Session makes Riz’s rhythmic thinking visible.

Riz sings while playing drums inside the compact studio setup. Guitar, bass and keys sit close around him. That closeness makes small musical cues easier to follow.

Voice and rhythm don’t occupy separate corners here. They arrive through the same performer.

That changes how you watch the music unfold.

Watch the Music Take Shape

This singer-drummer setup also carries some history.

During an earlier diffus.space performance, Riz played an entire set while singing and drumming simultaneously. That challenge became another step in his growing Aachen live presence.

Dansomania brings the same side of his musicianship closer.

The appeal isn’t a huge stage or oversized production. You’re watching melody and rhythm appear together. Then the surrounding players answer those choices.

Some artists explain their sound. Riz plays you inside it.
